Composition 1: The Classic Balance

• Rogue (Thief): Ranged physical DPS and expert lockpicking.

Composition 2: The Charisma & Stealth Blitz

• Bard (College of Swords): High Charisma dialogue Face, utility skills, and dual-hand crossbow DPS.

• Sorcerer (Storm): Metamagic twinned Haste buffs on the Paladin and Bard.

• Ranger (Gloom Stalker): High initiative ambush attacks, stealth, and trap detection.

Once you unlock the NPC Withers at your campsite early in Act 1, you can respec any companion for 100 gold. Many companions' default classes and subclasses are suboptimal for advanced combat:

• Shadowheart: Starts as a Trickery Domain Cleric. Trickery's spells (like Pass Without Trace or Mirror Image) are situational. Respec Shadowheart to Life Domain for incredible, life-saving healing bursts, or Light Domain to make her a powerful fire-wielding radiant spellcaster.

• Astarion: Roving as a Rogue is great, but multiclassing him into Ranger (Gloom Stalker) 5 / Rogue (Thief) 4 / Fighter (Champion) 3 turns him into an unstoppable stealth assassin who attacks 5-6 times in the first round of combat.

• Gale: Default Evocation Wizard is excellent. Keep him as a Wizard, but make sure to learn Haste, Counterspell, and Globe of Invulnerability from scrolls to handle late-game boss fights.

• Perception (Wisdom): Used constantly while exploring the world to detect hidden pressure plates, gas vents, keyholes, and buried treasure chests. Ensure at least one character (like a Druid, Ranger, or Elf) has proficiency.

• Sleight of Hand (Dexterity): Used to pick locks and disarm traps. Without a lockpicker, you will have to carry heavy steel chests around or waste spell slots casting "Knock".

• Persuasion / Deception (Charisma): Persuasion is the most important social skill. Success in social encounters can skip entire boss fights, earn massive discounts from traders, and unlock questlines without combat.
